Too many vocal histrionics… She doesn’t understand how to interpret classics… If you don’t believe me, check out Willie Nelson‘s version or Norah Jones or the one that’s considered the gold standard, The Righteous Brothers… singers like Kelly think they have to spice things up with that 80s-style vocal quiver and halfhearted imitation of black singers like Aretha Franklin who did what she did best and never had to imitate anyone 😂😂😂

It seems to me that she felt conflicted about how to approach this song. Should she pull back and just sing it straight to find a feeling that carries her through something new about that song? Should she interpret the song through the raw vocal ability she has? Honestly…I hope Kelly revisits this again somehow. And finds Away to bring her power to the quiet pensive melancholy that makes Both Sides Now such a moment in music that culturally we are still reflecting on it 50 yrs later. The song is behemoth if you hear the truth inside of it. If your that truth and you want to sing then Just come naked, first day you ever sang, and tell the truth. I wanna hear that version by Kelly because when we do, it gon take da whole World by storm.

I love this delivery. KC is the closest thing an old queen like myself can get to the Vocal Trinity!… Whitney, Mariah, Celine. The last time there were 3 singers whose producers were using each of them to sing the highest, longest sustained, and dramatic notes for their music- all before tuning was a thing. Kelly would have fit right into that group. Her tone is golden and steely, her head to chest transitions are flawless and of course she clearly kept that classical training because her circular breathing is unparalleled compared to todays singers. LOVE love love her. She also has that Whitney thing where she looks so beautiful when she sings 🙌🩵💜
